The Golden State Killer

Date Published 02.25.13

Many first-time visitors to the website are here because of my story in the March issue of Los Angeles magazine, on one of the most mysterious and sadistic serial killers in modern American history --- the East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker.  His moniker has led to some confusion over the years, so for purposes of my story we’ve renamed him the Golden State Killer, since it was communities up and down California that he terrorized from 1976-1986.

We’re launching a manhunt online to help authorities identify the Golden State Killer.  Key pieces of evidence are being released for the first time, including a hand-drawn map, a page of journal-like writing, and a never-heard before recording that investigators believe may be the killer’s voice.

The entire case file will be available online starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, here.

Look also for a “writer’s cut” of my story, with additional written material that didn’t make it into the print version.

Tips on the case should be forwarded to either serialkillerclues@ocsd.org or earinfo@sacsheriff.com.
